Eudora could not open the attachment file

You've just received an attachment. Now you probably want to do something with it. The easiest way is to simply double click on the filename. If you have an application associated with the type of file you received, Windows will open up the appropriate application and open up the file. For instance, you might have. When you double click on the file, your browser or paint program will pop up and show you the image. If Windows doesn't recognize the type of the file you have received, double-clicking on the filename won't do you much good.

Windows will pop up a little dialog box asking which application you'd like to use to open the file. Scroll down to the bottom category of options which should be "Ports".

Select that, and under SMTP port, change "25" to "". Try again. If that still doesn't work, contact the institution or internet provider to ask about their firewall. In the unlikely event you can send but not receive , the process is similar. In Options, select the "Checking Mail" category.

Here try the following settings:. If that doesn't work, pretty much all legitimate ports are blocked and the institution doesn't seem to want you to retrieve your email this is an unusual case, so please do contact us if you need access to your mail some other way. On occasion, problems with Eudora or some recently-installed antivirus software or firewall may cause similar problems.

To confirm that the problem is port blocking on the connection, you can start a terminal to run telnet. It should connect and you should see " mail. If you don't, or it just hangs there, then probably that port is blocked.

Both this and "all I see is a gray box" [or "red X"] are usually consequences of the difference between those images that can be shown by Eudora's simplified internal HTML viewer which is always used while composing, and which may in turn depend upon QuickTime to display some types and the possibility of using "Microsoft's viewer" a callable function within MS Internet Explorer to take over displaying inside other Eudora message windows, which then is subject to all of IE's own options; other Eudora options related to displaying images are: o Automatically download HTML graphics?

There are many items on the subject of graphics which are present and forwardable, but just not displaying, in archives of this newsgroup, in Qualcomm's forums eudorabb. Here is what I did. I sat down and wrote myself a letter. But for this "experiment", I embedded it. Or at least I believe I did it the correct way since I don't normally embed a photo. I addressed the email to myself, then clicked on "Edit", then "Insert", then "Picture". Selected a photo from my hard drive and sent it out to myself.

I received the email with the photo intact. Exactly as I had sent it. Then I forwarded it to myself. Received the email again as I had originally sent it. No problems at all with this. But I did look into my Eudora Embedded folder and the original photo I sent myself was there 3 times. But all with different file names. Then there are two other file names of the exact same photo So I guess this little experiment has gotten us nowhere.

You just forwarded a received message which had an "embedded" photo, but without the problem you originally reported failure upon "Forward" of a message containing embedded image, due to scrambled path to embedded file ; is that not a "success"?
